RICHARD G. BUCHANAN, Ph.D.
Dr. Richard Buchanan holds a BA in Psychology from Antioch College, Yellow Springs, OH. He received his Ph.D. in Industrial Human Relations, Psychometrics from New York University. He was bestowed the honor of Diplomate-Industrial/Organizational Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Buchanan’s academic and professional careers span several disciplines. As an independent consultant, he has provided advice and expertise to businesses, various industries, Labor Unions and educational institutions, focused on research leading to the optimization of human resource utilization; often involving the development of customized assessment systems.
As an adjunct Professor at the New York Institute of Technology, he taught courses in Research Methods, Statistics, Human Resources Management, Organizational Behavior and Strategic Management. In his earlier career as the Director or Buchanan Associates, Dr. Buchanan conducted extensive human resource research, including job analysis and assessment research, conducting pre-research focus groups and directing sub-doctoral research staff in the latest psychological methodologies and measurement techniques. As a human resource research consultant, he conducted personnel system’s reviews, job and labor market analyses and advised extensively on conduct of attitude surveys.
As the assistant Director of The Psychological Corporation’s Test Division, Dr. Buchanan conducted extensive Psychometric research, including test construction and validation, and led a staff of professionals engaged in design, data analysis and execution of complex field studies.
Throughout his career he has focused on the brain and how its performance or performance improvements can be stimulated and measured. Dr. Buchanan is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society, the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology, the Labor Relations Research Association (L.I. Chapter), the American Psychology-Law Society and is the Past President of the Metropolitan New York Association for Applied Psychology.
